I live in a very old house that most likely has lead paint, thick walls and worst of all, a crowded neighborhood where everyone is running wireless in their home. I can spot at least a dozen access points (they're all encrypted) that are broadcasting their presence. If you read my earlier article, you would remember that broadcasting your SSID is often more secure than not. There are tools that can detect wireless signals and absent the SSID, which could be easily sniffed.
